Redwing Spring Maintenance

I’m busy helping a few of our club members get our Redwings ready for the start of the 2026 sailing season. R241 ‘Shamrock’ came in for a minor cockpit coaming repair but because of the extremely damp conditions she’s been stored in over the winter her deck plywood which was not adequately varnished underneath and has become salt-laden had gone black with moisture. We’ve stripped her back to bare wood and with the coming of some warmer drier weather we’ll be building up some coats of fresh varnish.

Also in the workshop is my boat R228 ‘Pintail’ for a bit of ‘scratch and patch’ of some of her varnish where the sunlight has caused damage. She will also be having her deck flatted-down and a couple of fresh coats applied.
